Description

Learn to read from home with one of our dedicated Barton tutors using the Barton Remote Tutoring System on the Whizzimo platform. Now available online. Using the Barton Remote Tutoring System Whizzimo platform, learn to read from home with one of our dedicated Barton tutors. 

The Barton Reading & Spelling System is a structured, evidence-based tutoring program designed to support children and youth struggling with reading, spelling, and writing. Using the Orton-Gillingham approach, Barton teaches literacy through a multi-sensory method that engages visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic learning.

Sessions are one-on-one and tailored to each learner’s individual needs and pace. We recommend twice-weekly sessions to support consistent progress and skill development.

Each session is 50 minutes in length.

The actual cost of providing specialized Barton tutoring is approximately $85 per session. Thanks to the generous support of our funders and donors, we are able to offer a subsidized rate of $50 per session for all families.

An assessment is required for the Barton Reading and Spelling System to ensure that the program is appropriately tailored to meet the student's unique needs. A $75 non-refundable assessment fee is required to begin the program and must be completed before registration. If you have not completed the assessment, please click here:  

Please do not register for Barton until you have completed this assessment and have been officially accepted into the program.

Refunds & Cancellations

  1. Refunds for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled session will not be issued.
  2. Cancellations with more than 24 hours notice will be eligible for rescheduling.
  3. Cancellations by LDAWE are eligible for rescheduling or credit for the session
  4. Make-Up sessions available at mutually agreed-upon date and time.

At times, we may need to adjust tutor assignments due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. We will make every effort to provide a substitute tutor whenever possible. If we are unable to arrange coverage, families will have the option to reschedule the session or receive a credit for the missed lesson.

A payment plan is available.

Tech Requirements:

To ensure smooth performance, computers should have at least 4GB of RAM and a processor equivalent to an Intel i5, Apple M1, or AMD Ryzen 5. Additionally, the computer should use a Solid State Hard Drive (SSD) rather than a Hard Disk Drive (HDD).

Ensure access to high-speed internet. A strong internet connection reduces lag, buffering, and dropped calls. The recommended minimum web speed is 8 Mbps for both upload and download.
